President Nana Akufo-Addo’s right hand man, Eugene Arhin, has spoken on his divorce saga.
Mr Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, took to his Official Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, February 11, 2021, to comment on the divorce application by his estranged wife, Gloria Assan Arhin.
As earlier reported by African Entertainment, Mrs Arhin is seeking to end their marriage over several reasons.
Mrs Arhin filed for the divorce in an Accra High Court, Matrimonial Division.
Among the reasons she cited for the divorce are that since his appointment as Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Mr Arhin has turned against her and their three children.
According to a court document, “the respondent (Eugene Arhin) shortly after his appointment as the Director of Communications started behaving in very unusual ways towards the Petitioner (wife) and the children and continued on this path until the relationship between the parties deteriorated completely.”
The document revealed that “the marriage between the parties has for the past about four (4)years suffered irreparable damage and setbacks and all the efforts by the parties and their families at amicable resolution have all failed.”
The document added that Mr. Arhin has on several occasions unequivocally informed his wife that he is no longer interested in the marriage, adding that he has moved out of the family residence, leaving his wife and children alone.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Mr Arhin noted that “I have seen a divorce petition filed by my wife, which has been deliberately leaked all over social media obviously to achieve a certain effect. I have still not been served with these court processes, and, upon receipt, my lawyers will respond accordingly. Every marriage has challenges, and such challenges should not be addressed in the court of public opinion. I will not, for the sake of my children, and for the dignity of my wife, engage in any public banter.”
According to him, “In as much as many of the claims leveled against me are baseless and untrue, especially with respect to properties and physical abuse, I will hold my peace and deal with them in the Court of Law.”
Demands
But Ghanaians are taking to the comment section under his post to demand answers on how he managed to acquire so much wealth over a period of four years.
One Ghanaian Facebook user named Ras Kofi Ras commented: “Chairman (Eugene Arhin), forget the wife issue and the abuse. People do worse than that but the main focus is how you are able to achieve so much in just 4yrs under the salary of ¢13,000. We are going to use every authority stated under the laws of Ghana to make sure we know how you obtained these alleged properties in this short period.”
Another Facebook user, Azampak Mbugri, wrote: “we don’t care about your marriage aspect because that’s your private life but the properties she mentioned must be investigated and if you are found guilty the necessary sanctions will be meted out.”
Mr Arhin was an Assistant researcher at the Danquah Institute, a policy think tank based in Accra. He was press secretary to then opposition leader, Mr Akufo-Addo.
He became Communications Director at the Presidency In 2017 following the assumption of power by President Akufo-Addo.
And despite the fact that he and his wife faced sharp financial challenges prior to 2016, he has over the last years greatly amass abundant wealth, as typical of a Ghanaian politician who occupies a political office.
