Evanston Township High School has canceled all summer school classes, sports camps and on-campus activities scheduled for Monday and Tuesday after a ransomware attack, the school district said in a message on its website.
Evanston Township High School District 202 said the attack on Sunday disrupted access to systems, internet services and computer infrastructure. Following the incident, the district said it activated incident response procedures – and contacted cyber breach attorneys and cybersecurity experts.
“We are working with these specialists to determine precisely what information may have been accessed or acquired and to restore normal systems operations as quickly as possible,” its message to the school community read, in part.
District officials said they’re cooperating with the FBI as part of the investigation.
The extent of the impact wasn’t immediately known.
The school district said phone systems may be unavailable, staff may have limited access to email and families may not be able to access certain online resources, including Home Access Center.
