A Florida’s man’s father’s obituary expresses he was narcissist as a parent, and his sister agrees.
Ever wonder what your obituary may say, by your kids? Well according to reports this son already had his father’s obituary written out. But not full of accolades and flowers. Instead, he wrote about all the wrong things his dad did.
81-year-old Lawrence H. Pfaff Sr. and his son Lawrence H. Pfaff Jr. shared all the dirty details prior to his death. He also published his thoughts about his dad in The Florida Times-Union.
So why did he share the details? “Writing the obituary was a chance to heal from childhood trauma, his son, Lawrence Pfaff Jr., told NBC affiliate WTLV of Jacksonville. Pfaff could not be immediately reached for comment on Wednesday”.
He described his father as narcissist as a parent. As well as stating, defining him as “a ladies’ man” and an “abusive alcoholic,” “solidifying his commitment to both with the path of destruction he left behind, damaging his adult children, and leaving them broken.”
The 81-year-old worked for the New York Police department. But according to son lived part of his life as an active alcoholic. Nevertheless, the father claimed soberness for over 30 years. But never took steps to make amends with his children. The son shared the 12-step program for alcohol recovery. Which includes healing with children for steps 8 and 9.
Lawrence H. Pfaff Sr. fathered several children with different women. As well as leaving Lawrence H. Pfaff Jr. at the age of 9.
The now 58-year-old son prepared himself for negative feedback by the public. But instead, his half siblings also felt the same.
One of his half-sisters called him, stating the obituary gave her healing.
Additionally, his sister, Carolyn Compton also agreed. He and Compton grew up in the same household.
Compton, not surprised to find out she had half-siblings. And she recognized that they and other people who knew the elder Pfaff later in life might have different opinions of him.
Their other half-brother, Daniel Taylor only met their father three years ago. He had no experience as to their fathers’ characteristics. But stated, “I believe my brother told his truth, what he experienced”.
The Florida Times-Union, however, did not believe the obituary should’ve have been published. Gannett, the company that owns The Florida Times-Union wrote a statement.
“We regrettably published an obituary that did not adhere to our guidelines, and we are looking into the matter further. We regret any distress this may have caused,” a Gannett spokesperson said to NBC News.
