Ghana’s Coronavirus situation has worsened over the last two weeks, warranting the reintroduction of some restrictions, says President Nana Akufo-Addo.
President Akufo-Addo made the announcement in his update no. 23 on Sunday night, January 31, 2021, regarding measures being taken to curb the spread of coronavirus in Ghana.
Mr. Akufo-Addo noted that until further notice, weddings, parties, funerals with attendance more than 25, cannot be held in Ghana.
He said beaches, land and sea borders of Ghana, as well as cinemas remained closed until further notice.
Deaths
The President disclosed that some 64 people have died from Coronavirus in Ghana over the last two weeks.
He said “as at Friday, 29th January, sixty-four (64) more people have, sadly, died, over the last two weeks, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to four hundred and sixteen (416). Our hospitalization rate are increasing.”
“Our hospitals have become full, and we have had to reactivate our isolation centres,” according to him.
He indicated that “our average daily rates of infection now stand at seven hundred (700), compared to two hundred (200) two weeks ago.”
He observed that “the total number of active cases has more than doubled, from a little over one thousand, nine hundred (1,900), two weeks ago, to five thousand, three hundred and fifty-eight currently.”
Vaccines
Mr Akufo-Addo assured the nation that by June 2021, Ghana will be able to procure Over 17 million doses of Coronavirus vaccines.
According to him, his Government intended to vaccinate at least 20 million of the population.
He stated that the first batch of vaccines will be in Ghana by March 2021.
