Departures to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport were grounded Thursday morning due to thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The ground stop was issued just after 10:30 a.m. and was expected to remain in place until at least 12 p.m., though it could be extended.
The stop comes as the Chicago area battles waves of stormy weather this week.
Showers and storms were expected to gradually end through Thursday morning and afternoon, making way for a partly sunny afternoon as highs reach near 70 degrees.
Another round of potentially severe storms could move in again Friday evening, however.
