It was a day to remember in women’s figure skating as Alysa Liu dazzled the world with an incredible free skate on Thursday.
Liu was aiming to become the first American woman to win the gold medal in figure skating since Sarah Hughes did so in 2002, but she needed the skate of her life to beat Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto and Ami Nakai.
Needless to say, the competitors absolutely brought their A-game to the rink, with all three putting up big moves and beautiful routines on the big stage.
They weren’t alone, either. Japan’s Mona Chiba made sure she was a threat in the medal race, and Amber Glenn bounced back from her disappointing short program with one of the best free skates of the day.

Fortunately there will be plenty of figure skating action on the program, as the first part of the competition will be shown beginning at 7:03 p.m. Central, with the main event taking place at 8:35 p.m. Central.
There will be one more figure skating event in these Olympics, with the traditional Gala taking place on Saturday.

It is expected that Ilia Malinin will be among the performers in the event, a traditional sendoff for the Olympics each winter.
