Ah, the age-old, “Is it chicken or fish?” debate.
If you clicked on this post then you either wanna know what’s going on with Subway’s tuna sandwich drama or you wanna know what the heck Jessica Simpson has to do with it. Either way, I’ve got you covered.
So, earlier this week, a lawsuit was filed against Subway claiming that the sandwich chain’s tuna is actually “made from anything but tuna,” and is rather “a mixture of various concoctions that do not constitute tuna, yet have been blended together by defendants to imitate the appearance of tuna.”
A rep for Subway has called the accusations “baseless.”
The Today Show shared the news on Twitter and one Ms. Jessica Simpson chimed in with a *chef’s kiss* response.
Now you’re probably thinking, “I don’t get it? It’s not ~that~ funny.” But, oh, that’s where you’re wrong, dear reader. To understand, though, we need to travel back to 2003.
Leggings under denim mini skirts were the height of fashion, Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” had just hit the airwaves, and America’s sweethearts Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson were married and had their own reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

In the literal pilot of the series, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are seen eating dinner when the “These Boots Are Made For Walking” singer asks her husband if she’s eating tuna or chicken because the brand is called “Chicken of the Sea.”

“I know it’s tuna, but it says chicken…by the sea. Is that stupid?” she asks.
Then Nick silently stares at her in disbelief for I swear, 11 Mississippi seconds. I counted.

With no response, Jessica continues, “What?! Don’t make fun of me right now, I’m not in the mood.”
Finally, the future Love is Blind host throws her a bone. “You act like you’ve never had tuna before…Baby, you and I have had tuna like this before,” he tells his bride.

“Ohhh,” Jessica says…but no one is fooled. She still doesn’t get it.
I’m not saying that conversation was the beginning of the end, but…I’m not not saying that.
