A risk of salmonella contamination has caused yet another recall of a pantry item sold at a popular grocery store in Illinois and over a dozen other states, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
California-based Sugar Foods LLC recalled certain lots of Kroger brand Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons on May 15 because of concerns of salmonella contamination.
The recall stems from potential contamination of milk powder used to flavor the croutons, the recall states.
“The affected milk powder was supplied by California Dairies, Inc. to our seasoning supplier, Solina USA, and incorporated into the seasoning blend that Sugar Foods purchases from Solina USA and applies to the croutons,” Sugar Foods said in the recall announcement. “The affected seasoning batches tested negative for Salmonella prior to use.”
The croutons, sold in 5-ounce bags, were distributed between March 7 and April 7 to Kroger stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri and several other states.
Only specific lots of the croutons are subject to the recall.
Those with UPC number “0 11110 81353 4” and the following use by dates are affected:

No illnesses from the croutons have been reported, according to the recall.
