One of the world’s most recognizable brands is making a strategic move to tap into the growing protein trend.
As of Tuesday, April 21, McDonald’s has rolled out protein “callouts” on 17 different items at kiosks and on the McDonald’s app.
“The callouts serve as visual badges that make it quick and easy to spot protein options any time of day,” the Chicago-based fast food giant said in a news release.
McDonald’s said getting protein at its restaurants is “easier than you might expect,” with more than 30 menu items offering at least 15 grams of protein. Among them are the Egg McMuffin sandwich which has 17 grams of protein, along with the 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and the McDouble, which each contain 23 grams and 22 grams of protein, respectively.
McDonald’s encouraged customers in need of a “protein flex” to make certain customizations – like adding a second egg to breakfast orders or ordering an additional patty on their burger.
“People want food that fits their lives—and that includes more protein without giving up great taste,” Gina Hardy, vice president, U.S. marketing & menu strategy, said in a news release. “The options they’re looking for have been on our menu all along, made with real, quality ingredients, the flavors our fans love, and the convenience and value they count on every day.”
McDonald’s its the latest chain to highlight protein on its menu following the likes of Chipotle, Dunkin’ and others.
