Nigerian singer of the defunct P Square music group, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P, has finally opened up on reasons why ‘The Prodigal’ album was postponed three times before it was finally released on April 1, 2021.
According to Mr. P, he had decided to release the album on his birthday last year but unfortunately, the world experienced a total lockdown due to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, forcing him to suspend its release.
Recounting the second reason why he suspended the release of the album, Mr. P said “#Endsar came and my DJ who worked together with the team for The Prodigal album, DJ Switch was sent to exile. Releasing the album in such situations wouldn’t be fair so we suspended it”.
The internationally acclaimed Nigerian musician added that the album release was rescheduled to January 2021 but unfortunately, he lost his father-in-law, saying, “so I just decided to finally suspend the release and recognize everything again”.
Addressing controversies surrounding the title of the album ‘The Prodigal’, Mr. P said some people have misquoted the whole title of the album, saying, “and I am trying to redefine it, it more like someone who is independent and successful.”
He made these comments when he was asked why the album release was postponed.
“The Prodigal” album happens to be his first-ever solo album since his ‘divorce’ with his brother, Paul Okoye aka Rudeboy.
The album contains 16 tracks which include ‘Odo’, ‘Paloma’ featuring Singah, ‘I Do’ featuring Tiwa Savage,’ Boyfriend’, ‘Just Like That’ featuring Mohombi, ‘I Love You’ featuring Simi, Teni and Tamar Braxton, ‘I No Trouble’ and ‘Prodigal’ featuring DJ Switch.
The remaining songs include ‘Smooth criminal’,’ Blessed’, ‘Lola Diego’ featuring Singah, ‘Grow old’ featuring Oviekelz, ‘Eh Io’, ‘Nobody’, ‘Fly way’ and’ Follow My Lead ft Wande Coal.
