The Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has set a Ghc 10 fee for its upcoming musical concert in honour of late former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings.
Dubbed “My Hero Reggae Concert”, the event is billed to held this evening, Saturday January 30, 2021.
According to MUSIGA, the concert will take place at the forecourt of the Art Center in Accra at exactly 6:00 P.M.
MUSIGA says the concert is aimed at paying homage to former President Rawlings for his contribution to the Ghana Entertainment Industry.
Legendary artistes who are expected to perform include King Benjah, Ras Levi, Chizzy Walker, Jah Wisdom, Bobo Ranking, and a host of other gospel musicians.
Touching on why the concert was necessary, Chairman of MUSIGA, Ras Caleb, says the late Rawlings connected Ghana to the Diaspora.
He said Mr Rawlings the Emancipation Day, Panafest among other events to propel the creative art industry.
“J.J has done so much for the Creative Arts Industry, talk of National Theatre, Conference Centre and also he established the copyright law to help the Musicians, adding, he is a man wealthy to be celebrated”, according to him.
Mr. Rawlings ruled Ghana from the early 1980s to 2001. He came to power first as a military leader and was later elected through Democratic means as President of Ghana on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.
He died on Thursday November 12, 2020 and was buried on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Mr. Rawlings was a lover of music and did not shy away from dancing openly to good music at public events.
