Ex-US President, Donald Trump, has dismissed claims that his supporters are responsible for the deadly January 6, 2021 Capitol Riot.
According to Mr. Trump, his supporters posed “zero threat” and involved people “hugging and kissing the police.”
“It was zero threat, right from the start…Some of them went in, and they are hugging and kissing the police and the guards…a lot of the people were waved in, and then they walked in and they walked out,” Mr Trump, who vacated the White House with his wife, Melania, on January 20, 2021, stressed.
It would be recalled that on January 6, 2021, a police officer was allegedly murdered in the attack. Some 138 suffered injuries that included burns, concussions and fractures.
A mob besieged the Capitol trying to halt the certification of then President-elect, Joe Biden’s Electoral College win.
But speaking in an interview on Fox News monitored by African Entertainment, Mr Trump argued that his supporters who were arrested were being “persecuted” for involvement in the violence.
Here’s what Trump had to say on Fox tonight about the Capitol riots:
