Nearly 1.4 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks issued recall notices – NBC Chicago

A recall notice has been issued for nearly 1.4 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks, federal officials say.

According to an alert from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles impacted could potentially experience unexpected downshifts in their transmission systems.

Those downshifts can cause an abrupt reduction in wheel speed, which could cause the rear tires to slide until the vehicle slows down, raising the chances of a crash, according to the alert.

Ford reported two injuries and one crash that may have been related to the issue.

A total of 1.4 million Ford F-150 pickup trucks are being recalled as part of the investigation. The trucks were produced between March 2014 and August 2017, and are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Owners can either call 1-866-436-7332 or visit their local Ford or Lincoln dealer if their trucks are impacted. Owners will also be notified by mail if they need to have a software update installed.
