The Senate has made a move to regulate the sale of bleaching cosmetics in Nigeria.
On Tuesday, the Senate ordered its Committee on Health to probe the procedures adopted in the production of cosmetics with the aim of certifying quality and safety.
The Senate’s upper chamber also mandated the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to take up its duty of regulating importation, formulation and sale of cosmetics within Nigeria.
In its motion titled “Need for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to move swiftly to regulate formulation and distribution of cosmetics, the upper chamber’s move will help control the use of bleaching products in Nigeria. The motion was sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
