
Flight delays were reported at O’Hare International Airport as a round of storms swept through the Chicago area Sunday evening.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, as of 4:05 p.m., departure delays were averaging 60 minutes and increasing. A ground delay program was set to take effect at 7 p.m. through 9:59 p.m.
Average delays were expected to reach 78 minutes due to the thunderstorms.
The Chicago Department of Aviation reported that delays at the airport were averaging 39 minutes. The figures vary FAA data captures system-wide air traffic impacts, while local airport officials focus on real-time conditions on the ground.
