“I laughed, I cried, I watched in awe.”
It’s been less than a week since One Night in Miami premiered on Amazon Prime and it’s already generating some serious Best Picture Oscar buzz”.
But it’s no surprise — the film was pretty much set up for success. First, the movie was directed by the incomparable Regina King, who demonstrated she’s a star in front of and behind the camera.

Kemp Powers, the creator of the play in which the film was adapted, also penned the powerful screenplay.

And to top it off, the cast was stacked with fresh talent who captured the essence of these historic icons with ease.

Regina tapped High Fidelity‘s Kingsley Ben-Adir (Malcolm X), Hamilton‘s Leslie Odom Jr. (Sam Cooke), The Invisible Man‘s Aldis Hodge (Jim Brown), and Riverdale‘s Eli Goree (Muhammad Ali).
So, if you still haven’t seen the film or if you’re just looking for another excuse to watch it again, here’s what people are saying about One Night in Miami:

Wow. Thank you @ReginaKing for giving us #OneNightInMiami ! I am leaving this movie with a lot of emotions. I love how this movie shows the true diversity of Black perspectives. We are all in the same Struggle. It pains me that this conversation is ongoing almost 70 years later!

#OneNightInMiami is one of my favorite movies of the year. Directed by @ReginaKing from a script by @Powerkeni such a layered & complex depiction of friendship between Black men. Incredibly written, directed and acted. Look for Best picture, Directing, Screenplay & Acting noms.

I’m watching #OneNightInMiami directed by @ReginaKing and I’m thinking about how much stress malcolm x was under. Fighting for the equality for black people and people trying to silence you. This movie is deep and it’s a serious reminder.

These men on this rooftop!!!The fireworks in the distance. The coloring. The pacing of the dialogue. Getting to the crux of where they are and how they see the world. Glorious!!! #OneNightInMiami

Denzel Washington’s performance as Malcolm X is one of the best ever given by any actor. It’s a huge testament to Kingsley Ben-Adir’s talent that his great performance as Malcolm X in ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI stands on its own & doesn’t suffer by comparison. Recommended double feature.

It’s funny — watching One Night in Miami really inspired me to work today. I got so much done.
That dialogue cracked!
And, it was so elegant, which I appreciate since movies about Black men rarely get such a tender hand.

One Night in Miami is one of the most consistently engaging stage adaptations I’ve seen recently. It doesn’t compromise the character’s views in order to appeal to a moderate audience. In fact, it finds that appeal by being honest about them & finding interesting middle ground

“One Night in Miami” was so good…! Four legends who have fought against racism. Their paths were different, but their goals were the same. As long as you have a strong conviction that this is what you want to shoot, you don’t need elaborate direction or locations…!

Got chills during this scene of Malcolm X recalling the time Sam Cooke almost got booed off stage but turned it around into his song “Chain Gang”.
From the film ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI (2020), which I highly recommend watching and is on Prime Video.

So many great performances in “One Night in Miami”. Kingsley Ben-Adir is tremendous as Malcolm X, but it was Aldis Hodge who made me want to watch him in a Jim Brown action movie.
