Ghana’s parliament has been shut down partially due to Coronavirus outbreak.
At least 17 Members of Parliament (MPs) have contracted the virus.
Some 151 Parliamentary staff have equally tested positive for Coronavirus, African Entertainment is reliably informed.
As a result, Ghana’s Parliament has been suspended for three weeks.
However, a few members of the House’s appointment committee will be at work tomorrow to vet the ministers-designate for the various ministries and the 16 regions of Ghana.
As a way of preventing the further spread of Coronavirus, a fumigation exercise is expected to take place at Job 600, a building that houses the offices of members of parliament in Ghana’s National Capital, Accra.
Also, African Entertainment can confirm that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has ordered all MPs to get tested for Coronavirus.
The Speaker had earlier revealed how some MPs were refusing to get tested and that others who have tested positive were still refusing to stay in isolation but rather making their way to parliament, thereby putting their colleagues at risk of contracting the deadly virus.
The news about the closure of parliament comes as Ghana’s confirmed Coronavirus Cases reached 73,003 on February 9, 2021.
The country’s active Covid19 cases, according to GHS stands at 6,938 and deaths linked to the virus have increased to 482.
