Chicago Cubs center field Pete Crow-Armstrong will grace the cover of this month’s Chicago Magazine, revealing new insight into contract extension talks, his 2025 season and more.
Crow-Armstrong, who won a Gold Glove and was an All-Star for the first time in his MLB career last season, got off to a great start in the campaign, but faltered badly down the stretch even as his team made the playoffs.
In his interview with the magazine, which will hit newsstands this week, he called his second half of the 2025 season “terrible,” but said that through it all Cubs fans continued to be vocal and supportive of him and the team.
“It’s just an incredible city. The people are great,” he said. “They give a s—. They aren’t just baseball fans who go to the game like Dodgers fans to take pictures or whatever. They are paying attention. They care.”
Crow-Armstrong is still on his rookie deal with the Cubs, but he was the subject of contract talk last season, and he said he would very much like to stay with the team for the long-term.
“I’ve made it clear I want to be here for as long as they want me,” he said. “I want what’s best for the team. I’m cool with being under team control and being here. League minimum ain’t too f—— bad.”
He did say in the interview he wants to be fair to the free agent market for outfielders when he signs a deal, and says he’s glad the Cubs and his agents are going to work together on a contract.
He also said that his first taste of playoff baseball has left him hungry for more.
“I saw what bringing playoff baseball back to the city meant,” he said. “That’s an easy, immovable goal. The f— are you playing for if you’re not trying to play in the playoffs and win the World Series?”
Crow-Armstrong is entering his third full season with the Cubs, coming off a year where he hit 31 home runs and drove in 95 RBI’s. He also stole 35 bases, proving to be a menace both in the field and on the bases for opposing teams to deal with.
He’ll likely have to cover a bit more ground in the outfield this season after the departure of Kyle Tucker, with Seiya Suzuki expected to make the bulk of the starts in right field.
