Police in a northwest Chicago suburb are excavating the property of a home in connection with the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who went missing after telling her sister she was going to a nearby park.
It has been nearly 10 years to the date since Kianna Galvin was last seen on May 6, 2016, headed to Jim Hansen Park in South Elgin.

On Thursday, the South Elgin Police Department and Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force began a “forensic excavation” at a home in the 800 block of Revere Road in connection with her case.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s office said “the excavation is being conducted after investigators scanned the property with ground-penetrating radar.”
“The GPR scan revealed anomalies beneath the surface that detectives determined warranted further investigation,” Jamie Mosser said in a release.
Part of Revere Road was closed during the excavation.
A heavy police presence could be seen in the area from NBC Chicago’s Sky 5 helicopter.
Further details on the newest update weren’t immediately available.
“Ten years have passed since Kianna disappeared, and the weight of that loss is still deeply felt by her family, her friends, and this entire community,” Mosser said. “My heart remains with all who continue to carry that pain. We have not forgotten Kianna, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to seek the truth. It is my hope that renewed efforts will finally bring the answers her family deserves. I urge anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward and contact the police.”
At the time of her daughter’s disappearance, Kianna Galvin’s mother told NBC Chicago the park was located just three blocks away from her home and the family didn’t suspect she had run away.
“It was Mother’s Day. We had plans,” Fiona Galvin said. “She was gonna cook out steaks we had just bought the day before she went missing.”
“She left everything at home, her purse, her wallet, everything a young girl would take with her if she was planning to leave for a few days,” added family friend Carolyn Cynowa.
Kianna Galvin has brown eyes, brown hair, stands 5’6″ tall, and weighs 146 pounds. She has a tattoo of a heart, pulse sign, and cross on her left wrist.
Anyone with information is asked to call the South Elgin police at (847) 741-2151.
