Traffic in the north suburbs on the outbound Edens Expressway Monday morning was heavy with backups and delays expected after a tanker truck spilled hazardous material on the ramp at Dempster Road, NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said.
The spill, on the outbound said, was causing “major” traffic for reverse commuters, Martin said, as ramps from Dempster onto the Edens both eastbound and westbound were closed.
As of 7 a.m., traffic was backed up as far as Cicero Avenue, with drivers taking an alternate at the Peterson exit through Skokie.
About 7:15 a.m., a crash at Skokie in Gross Point Road in the detour was causing even more headaches, Martin said.
Drivers should plan to get back on the Edens at the Lake entrance, Martin said, as the entrance to the expressway at Old Orchard remains closed due to construction.
