The 2026 Bank of America Chicago 13.1 Half-Marathon unofficially kicks off the summer running season, and records fell on the streets of the city Sunday.

Hundreds of participants hit the course on Chicago’s West Side, and in the early stages of the competition a record quickly fell.

That record, at least unofficially, now belongs to men’s wheelchair racer Daniel Romanchuk, who blistered through the 13.1-mile course in a staggering time of 41 minutes and 54 seconds.

He bested the competition in the race by more than five minutes, with Evan Correll and Aaron Pike finishing in second and third place.

Daniel Romanchuck speaks with NBC Chicago’s Jenn Schanz after setting an unofficial course record in the Bank of America 13.1 men’s wheelchair race.

Romanchuk is no stranger to winning in Chicago, having captured the top spot in the 13.1 in the previous three editions of the race, including with a time of 43:43 last year.

A record was also set in the men’s race, as Daniel Simiu Ebenyo captured the top spot with a time of 1:00:39, which set an unofficial record for the 13.1-mile race.

He bested Americans Futsum Zienasellassie and Bob Liking, completing the course in just over an hour.

Ebenyo is currently the No. 2-ranked cross country runner in the world, and he bested his time from the New York City Half-Marathon by 11 seconds in capturing the win in Chicago.

He won a silver medal in the 2023 World Championships at the 10,000-meter distance among his other career accomplishments.

The women’s wheelchair race was won by Tatyana McFadden, who crossed the finish line in a time of 50:27.

McFadden has won nine Bank of America Chicago Marathons in her career, and finished in third place last year with a time of 1:39:04. She returns to the winner’s circle this time around, adding another medal to her distinguished career.

Laura Galvan captured the top spot in the women’s race, finishing in a time of 1:10:11.

Galvan is a decorated distance runner, having won gold medals in the 2019 Pan-American Games in the 5,000 meters and in the CAC games in the 10,000-meter distance in 2023.

She also won Mexico’s national championship in the 1,500-meter distance in 2024, adding another medal to her collection as she had also won races at the 5,000-meter distance in that competition.

We will continue adding results to this page as they become available, and you can watch all the finishers in the player above.
