Seun Kuti has opened up about being raised by his mother in Kalakuta.
According to the singer and son of Afrobeats legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, despite being raised in a home filled with smokers, he didn’t start smoking till he turned 21. This was because his mother ensured he never indulged.
Seun shared the revelation in the caption of a photo of his young self photographed with his mother. He wrote: “When I tell people I didn’t smoke till I was 21, they don’t believe me but it’s true. I never smoked in kalakuta (my mother would have killed me) but everyone was smoking. The whole house was foggy 24/7 and I basically grew up in that fog.”
