Sylvie’s Love: Twitter Reactions, Rege Jean-Page

If you’re looking for a little distraction from all the madness happening in 2021, Sylvie’s Love just might do the trick.

Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha take us back to the 1950s as they question if a summer romance can withstand the test of time.

Except time isn’t the only thing standing in their way. From marital commitments to career aspirations, Sylvie Parker and Robert Halloway discover what it truly means to follow your heart.

It’s the way the movie highlights Black love without exposing the characters to any unnecessary trauma for me!

Outside of the story itself, the costume design and hairstyles will immediately transport you back in time…

…while the soundtrack ties everything together and enhances every scene.

And as an added bonus, Bridgerton‘s breakout star, Regé-Jean Page, How to Get Away with Murder‘s Aja Naomi King, Eva Longoria, Jemima Kirke, and Ryan Michelle Bathe are also in the film.

But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what other people had to say about Sylvie’s Love:

Good LORD. This scene nearly killed me. Bravo to all. The writing. Directing. Editing. And in this scene… the sheer brilliance of @AlanoMiller & @TessaThompson_x ?????? #SylviesWatchParty https://t.co/yd4DJiCISL

aside from the overall sweet love story, i love how the movie really showed that a black woman can live out her wildest dreams no matter how tricky life may get. #SylviesWatchParty @TessaThompson_x @PrimeVideo

#SylviesLove was everything ya’ll said it was and then some. I loved seeing young, Black, creative people existing and navigating through love – not just for each other – but for their respective passions and craft.

@NewBlackMan I really enjoyed #SylviesLove. I was totally plugged in. It was refreshing and came right on time as a much needed reprieve to collectively lift us as we round out this year of continuous grief and suffering.

I am just awe struck by @TessaThompson_x once again. This time it is her cadence, her intonations. She is purposeful and dignified and playful and curious. She is what I imagine my own grandmother was like as a young adult in 1950. Stunning performance. #SylviesWatchParty

Just finished watching #SylviesLove and what a beautiful movie. What subtle and sweet performances from Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha. Loved the music, the cinematography of old New York. ???

You know what I love about Nnamdi’s acting in this movie? The quiet nature he has, even when angry, happy and hurting Sylvia (not my favorite part). He gives off a shy nature about the character so well. #SylviesLove #SylviesWatchParty

#SylviesLove 10/10 ? Adored this story that so well portrayed the internal navigation of ourselves & our loves, relationally/career/etc. “Life’s too short to waste time with things you don’t absolutely love.”

#SylviesLove is the Notebook for black folks. I absolutely loved this movie! It gave me all the feels, and it made me realize that deep, deep, deep, down inside I’m a hopeless romantic. ?????????

After this past year (week?), SYLVIE’S LOVE is the pure cinematic bliss we need: an ode to Black life, music, and NYC, vibrantly rendered in midcentury costumes and production design. I was smitten—with the characters, the stars, the whole film. Great romantic melodrama.

Sylvie’s Love is an elegant, sincere, old-school romantic melodrama. Tessa Thompson & Nnamdi Asomugha are exceptional. Director Eugene Ashe is clearly a lover of classical hollywood cinema, apparent in the film’s craftsmanship and narrative simplicity. A breath of fresh air.
