A popular Mozambican actress has passed away, local media reports say.
According to reports monitored by African Entertainment, Hermelinda Simela, who is also a movie producer and director, passed away while giving birth in hospital.
She was aged 38-year-old. Reports say she was being treated for complications arising from the delivery.
However, her new-born daughter survived and is doing well, reports say.
Simela was instrumental in founding a theatre group in Mozambique capital, Maputo.
During her time as an actress, African Entertainment understands that she mostly toured Mozambique, helping to train other performers.
Outside Mozambique, she visited and worked in countries such as Brazil, the Netherlands, Germany, India and Spain.
It would be recalled that she was awarded Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role in Virgin Margarida.
