An organization is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a post-prom shooting that left one teenager dead and two other people injured in northwest Indiana.
The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation announced the reward on Monday, two days following the shooting at a residence in Pine Township, which is roughly five miles west of Michigan City. Sheriff’s officials said officers arrived and found three individuals who had been shot, including a teen boy. That teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
An 18-year-old woman and a second juvenile were injured, but information on their conditions hasn’t been released.
According to officials with Michigan City Area Schools, the gathering was a post-prom party at the residence. A witness told NBC Chicago a chaotic scene unfolded in the minutes after shots were fired.
“All hell broke loose,” neighbor Mike Schnell said. “People running everywhere both directions.”
A resident whose home was struck by a bullet was among those shaken by the shooting.
“This is the hole, that the bullet went into, and then it exited out in here and then I don’t know if you can see this, then it went in here,” neighbor Kimberly Horn described.
Horn was in another room when a bullet from across the street flew through her door.
“…Yeah I really appreciate that the Lord looked after me last night,” she said.
Police said the incident was isolated, and there was no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information was asked to call the Porter County Sheriff’s Office.
