A suburban homeowner managed to scare off would-be car thieves in his driveway in a scene that was all caught on security cameras.
According to police, Elk Grove officers responded to a disturbance just before 5 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Wildwood Road.
A 911 caller had reported someone was trying to break into his car in his driveway.
“When officers arrived, they learned that the homeowner had scared off the burglars by banging on his window of his house,” police said in a statement. “The burglars did break a window on the car, but did not go into the car or steal it.”
Footage of the incident shows two people wearing sweatshirts and masks appearing to try to break into a vehicle. A loud banging sound is heard in the background as the two people run away from the driveway.
“There were two people seen on video wearing dark colored hoodies walking towards the car, breaking the window, and then leaving on foot after being scared away by the homeowner,” police said.
No other details were provided on the investigation.
