The ongoing feud between President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV has gained worldwide attention, including from a popular Chicago food establishment.
The Wieners Circle, the iconic Lincoln Park hot dog stand known for offering saucy takes on national and international affairs, responded to the clash with a message on its marquee.
“South Side Pope roped the dope,” its sign read.
The restaurant shared a photo of the sign on Facebook, along with the caption, “Is the pope catholic?! Paging Dr Rosenjesus #drtrump.”
The message highlights Pope Leo’s ties to Chicago; he was born in the city and raised in the south suburb of Dolton.
This isn’t the first time the establishment has referenced Pope Leo.
In May of 2025, The Wieners Circle paid tribute to the then-newly elected Pope with the message – “Canes nostros ipse comedit” – Latin for “he has eaten our dogs.”
A Chicago mainstay since the 1980s, The Wieners Circle is a beloved institution nicknamed the city’s rudest hot dog stand, known for its sassy staff and outspoken takes.
