A 20-year-old man is facing reckless homicide charges after he allegedly slammed into an elderly couple’s vehicle while traveling nearly 120 miles per hour.
According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Charles Rodgers is also facing charges of aggravated reckless driving and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle in the crash that led to the deaths of 85-year-old Dennis White and his 88-year-old wife Ritsuko White.
It is alleged Rodgers was driving a BMW X3 from a car dealership where he was employed at the time of the crash, but that he did not have permission to drive the vehicle.
Authorities allege Rodgers had pulled the vehicle to a stop on Bricher Road in Geneva on the afternoon of September 5, with three other passengers in the vehicle. It is then alleged he sped the car up to approximately 119 miles per hour down the street, which has a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.
It was at that moment that Dennis White was attempting to turn his Toyota Corolla onto Bricher Road, according to authorities.
Instead of trying to break, Rodgers allegedly tried to swerve around the Corolla but instead slammed into it head on. Both Dennis and Ritsuko White died from their injuries, and multiple individuals in the car driven by Rodgers were hospitalized with injuries.
Rodgers now faces multiple felony charges in the case, and is being held on electronic home monitoring until his next court hearing in May.
