The Chicago White Sox have snapped a three-game losing streak, with Miguel Vargas hitting two home runs in a 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners.
Colson Montgomery also hit a home run, and Anthony Kay allowed just one unearned run in five innings as the White Sox evened up their series with the Mariners on the South Side.
Luis Castillo gave up four earned runs in four innings for the Mariners, and the White Sox just kept adding on as the game moved along to move their record to 18-21 on the season.
The White Sox wasted no time getting on the board in the game, with Montgomery smacking a two-run home run to right field to score Sam Antonacci and to give the Sox an early 2-0 lead over the Mariners.
Vargas followed that up with a home run of his own in the third inning, and in his next at-bat in the fifth he went deep again on a 404-foot shot to left field, putting the White Sox ahead 5-1.
The White Sox were able to add one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder’s choice, and that’s all their bullpen needed, as Grant Taylor, Bryan Hudson and Tyler Schweitzer combined on four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters en route to the victory.
Outfielder Andrew Benintendi was scratched from the lineup before the game with a stiff neck, and his status for Sunday’s series finale against the Mariners is in question.
The White Sox will go for the series win Sunday afternoon at Rate Field, with Davis Martin taking the ball. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m.
