
A ground stop was issued at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon as thunderstorms and potentially severe weather was expected to roll through the area.
The ground stop for flights departing to O’Hare was issued around 3:18 p.m. due to thunderstorms and will continue until 4:45 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Authority.
There is a medium probability of extension on the ground stop, according to the FAA.
Flights at Midway Airport were not impacted as of 4 p.m., according to the FAA.
The Chicago area is under a “marginal” risk for severe weather Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, including a blowing dust advisory in some counties.
The blowing dust advisory warns of “patchy blowing dust with localized visibility of one mile or less expected” near agricultural areas in LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee and southern Will in Illinois, and Jasper and Newton counties in northwest Indiana.
