Amid humid conditions and highs in the mid-80s, you might want to keep an eye on conditions Saturday, with showers possible throughout the day and evening.
Despite multiple chances for rain, the National Weather Service says most areas will remain dry.
The morning began with muggy conditions as dew points sat in the mid-50s and a line of showers passed through during the 6 a.m. hour.
According to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack, showers formed over the city and moved east toward Lake Michigan, serving as a precursor to a larger system.
As conditions improve, the early round of rain was expected to move out rather quickly. Sunshine was poised to return shortly after, with temperatures climbing steadily amid humid conditions and highs rising into the mid-80s.
However, another round of storms could develop, propelled by southwesterly winds. The greatest potential is around 8 to 9 p.m., Sack shared, with chances continuing overnight.
He said the round of rain isn’t expected to be severe but noted rain and potential storms may continue into the morning as temperatures drop into the mid-60s. With scattered storms around, a thunder shower is possible in the morning and afternoon, even though it’s not clearly shown on weather models.
High temperatures will climb to around 86 degrees for the day.
The rain doesn’t end this weekend; more is coming our way on Monday.
Showers may develop in the morning, followed by the potential for severe weather and the chance for showers and storms in the afternoon. According to the Storm Prediction Center, the Chicago area is under the slight risk category for severe weather, which is a level two out of five.
Gusty winds, large hail and brief heavy downpours are all possible, and isolated tornadoes aren’t out of the question.
Another round of severe weather is possible on Tuesday, with highs near 84 degrees.
Temperatures dip on Wednesday, with highs dropping in the mid-60s.
Good news is ahead afterward, with a warm-up returning in time for Memorial Day weekend.
