A severe thunderstorm watch was issued Monday morning, and a line of thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning to the region.
The story was the same in northwest Indiana, as at least 3,500 customers were left without power according to NIPSCO data. Most of the outages were reported in East Chicago, with outages also being reported in Portage and St. John as the severe thunderstorm warnings continued.
The ongoing severe thunderstorm watch is expected to be canceled once thunderstorms finish rumbling through the region, but the Chicago area won’t be done with severe storms this week, as another chance of powerful weather could enter the forecast on Tuesday.
