A Chicago firefighter who died after suffering a medical emergency during a training incident last week will be laid to rest Friday.
Funeral services for CFD veteran Steve Decker, who spent more than 30 years in the department, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran church.
Live coverage of the services will air on NBC 5 and stream on the NBC Chicago app and streaming channel.
According to the department, 61-year-old Decker passed away last Thursday after he suffered an emergency during an annual equipment test.
Decker was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“We are asking for prayers for the entire Decker & CFD families during this difficult time,” the department wrote on social media.
It marks the second big loss for the department following the death of firefighter Michael Altman, who was killed battling a blaze in Chicago less than two months ago.
Decker was a firefighter for more than three decades, serving in a firehouse in the West Ridge neighborhood, according to the department.
He leaves behind his wife Colleen and his stepchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Tunnels for Towers Foundation, or to another charity in Decker’s name.
