A suspect has been arrested and charged in a Grand Crossing hit-and-run that left a 64-year-old woman dead Sunday.
According to Chicago police, 45-year-old Garland Spikes was arrested approximately three hours after the crash in the 5600 block of South Maryland.
Police say Spikes was behind the wheel of a sedan when he disregarded a red light and slammed into the passenger side door of a passing SUV. He then fled the scene on foot, police said.
A 64-year-old passenger in that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Spikes now faces charges of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and driving on a revoked license in the commission of a DUI, both of which are felonies. He also faces misdemeanor charges, including reckless driving.
