Michelada Fest, originally planned for late June in Chicago’s Union Park, has been canceled but will return later this year as a free street festival, according to organizers.
In a statement on their website, organizers said they made the “difficult decision” to cancel the festival, which was planned for the weekend of June 26-28, citing rising expenses.
“The costs of producing a festival of this size have risen rapidly across every part of the event, and we do not have the same capital or backing as larger players to absorb those pressures,” their announcement read, in part.
Those behind the event said they aren’t “done showing up” and plan to host Michelada Fest as a free street festival from Sept. 18–20.
“No tickets. No barriers,” their post added. “Solo nuestra comunidad.”
Organizers said those who purchased tickets will be given refunds, which are expected to be issued within 15 and 30 days.
