Rihanna is powerful enough to be “Savage and sorry” as she Rihanna Apologizes for a Muslim offense that occurred during the Savage X Fenty fashion show.
The show included the song Doom by artist Coucou Chloe, which includes a Muslim text known as a Hadith.
A Hadith is part of a collection of texts believed to be the spoken words of the Prophet Muhammad.
After the holy book the Koran, the Hadiths are seen as some of the most important religious texts to Muslims.
The Arabic verse used in the song is part of a Hadith about judgement day.
Not only was Rihanna not aware of this mistake, neither was the artist.
Coucou Chloe also apologized, saying she wasn’t aware that the song contained the Islamic verses.
“I want to deeply apologise for the offense caused by the vocal samples used in my song “Doom”. The song was made using examples from Baile funk tracks I found online. At the time I was not aware that these samples used text from an Islamic Hadith.”
Fashion blogger Arooj Aftab spoke out about the misuse saying, “This is a Hadith and it’s been put into a song where women are dancing around in lingerie.
“Islam is very modest – [this is] opposite to that. I think every single Muslim has a right to be offended.”
Rihanna admitted that it was an honest, yet careless mistake and stated clearly that she does not play with disrespecting culture, and that she is deeply sorry.
“Moving forward we will make sure that nothing like this ever happens again.”
We’re glad the Bad Gal RiRi knows how to be “Savage x Sorry” at the same time.
We can only imagine that Rihanna will keep growing and learning how to properly incorporate cultural diversity into her shows as she continues.
