Two Chicago foundations are working together to make sure people with different abilities are seen and supported.
They’re bringing the mission to life through inclusive fashion show called Runway of Change.
Azalia Mallory, the founder of Limitless Free and United Inc., is single mom living with cerebral palsy. She is also the reigning Miss Wheelchair Indiana.
Jamaal Johnson, the founder of the Stay Up Foundation, experienced a life-changing spinal cord injury after a car accident left him paralyzed. Instead of allowing that moment to define him, he turned it into purpose and built his foundation.
Together, their journeys have shaped the vision behind Runway of Change.
“We work to empower, motivate and encourage people in all ways,” Johnson said. “Fashion is the one thing that unites everyone, right? You don’t have to speak the same language. You don’t have to look the same to understand what fashion is.”
“The event combines active lifestyles and fashion,” Mallory explained. “It embodies inclusiveness and community.”
In addition, Americans With Disabilities Act representatives will speak at the event, helping educate the community on disability rights, accessibility and practical ways to navigate and live confidently with a disability.
The Runway of Change fashion show is set for June 21 at the Columbus Park Refectory in Chicago. Information on how to purchase tickets can be found here.
