A ground stop has been issued at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport Wednesday as severe weather arrives in the area.
A line of powerful thunderstorms stretching from Wisconsin well into central Illinois is pushing toward the Chicago area, bringing with it heavy rain and very gusty winds, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
As a result, a ground stop has been issued at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport until at least 4 p.m., with an extension of that possible.
Ground delays of up to four hours are also being projected, according to the FAA.
A ground stop means that air traffic bound for Chicago will be held at its departing airports according to the FAA.
Severe weather is expected to be an issue through the late afternoon and evening, with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the entire Chicago area until 10 p.m.
