The Chicago Bears already know they’re playing on Thanksgiving, but could the Monsters of the Midway be busy on Christmas too?
On Wednesday, it was reported the Bears would travel to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, and the NFL has confirmed that game in a release on Thursday morning prior to the reveal of the entire league schedule.
Now, it appears the Bears will be busy on another holiday too.
According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Bears will indeed be playing on Christmas Day, taking on the Green Bay Packers in a game that will be aired nationally on Netflix.
According to the league, the game would be the third the Bears have played on the Christmas holiday, and the prior two were both against the Packers, a win at Lambeau Field in 2005 and a loss up in Green Bay in 2011.
The Bears will also play on Thanksgiving for the 39th time in team history, the third-most of any NFL team and the most of any team that doesn’t traditionally host a game, trailing only the Lions and the Dallas Cowboys.
There have been numerous other reports on Bears games for the upcoming season, including a reported season-opener against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte and their home opener in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to multiple reports.
The full schedule will be released Thursday evening by the NFL, and NBC Chicago will have a schedule release special at 7 p.m. on the station’s 24/7 Streaming News channel.
