
Several Chicago suburbs were investigating after a theft suspect ran into a residential neighborhood in Elmhurst early Wednesday morning during a police pursuit, with a manhunt still underway.
Elmhurst police first posted to Facebook about the incident about 4:25 a.m., saying officers, K9s and drones were searching the area of St. Charles and Fair Avenue for a theft suspect.
According to the department, the search in Elmhurst began as police were pursuing a vehicle on I-290. The vehicle exited onto St. Charles Road, with two suspects inside running off.
The suspects were seen could be seen on foot near St. Charles Road and Fair Street, and into the neighborhood, police said. One suspect was located and taken into custody, but another remained at large.
The suspect was described as a man wearing dark clothing. Residents were asked to call 911 if they see a person in the area matching the description.
In an 8:15 a.m. update, Elmhurst police said the suspect was no longer believed be in the suburb, and that the community alert was canceled.
The department added that police in Villa Park and Addison were the primary investigating agencies because the theft originated in their jurisdictions. NBC Chicago reached out to both departments for more information.
