A driver backed into a UPS store in suburban Shorewood on Monday afternoon, pinning an employee beneath the vehicle, authorities said.
At around 2:30 p.m., first responders were called to 1133 W. Jefferson St. for a vehicle that had struck the business. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and determined a vehicle had backed into the structure and pinned an employee who was inside.
Fire department personnel freed the worker, who was transported to an area hospital with lower extremity injuries. Police said the driver was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries but was conscious and able to communicate at the scene.
A passenger was evaluated at the scene but declined further medical treatment.
The vehicle was later removed and the village of Shorewood’s Building Department was called to assess the extent of the damage.
An investigation is underway by the Shorewood Police Department.
