The Chicago area will finally see some warmer temperatures in the forecast for Sunday, but another chance of severe weather is also looming.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, the Chicago area will be at a marginal risk of severe weather on Monday night, with the main threats being gusty winds and isolated heavy rain.
Before that arrives however, the city and suburbs will enjoy a largely pleasant Sunday, albeit one that will start out with a few showers that are expected to drift across the area in the late morning and into the early stages of the afternoon.
Once the showers clear out, sunny skies and breezy conditions are expected, with highs rising into the mid-to-upper 60s, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
The overnight hours are expected to be quiet, and temperatures are expected to warm even more, with highs in the upper-70s amid continued breezy conditions.
In the late evening hours, a front is expected to sweep southward toward the Chicago area, bringing with it a chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms, some of which could be strong-to-severe, according to forecast models.
Gusty winds are possible with the storms as they move southward, along with some hail and heavy rainfall.
Once the front passes through the region, showers could linger into Tuesday morning, and temperatures will be significantly cooler, dropping back into the 50s for most of the upcoming work week.
After another round of showers on Thursday, temperatures are expected to climb Friday and into the weekend, with highs in the upper-60s and pleasant conditions expected according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
