Chicago White Sox slugger Munetaka Murakami is making quite the impression in his rookie season, and he’s made more history in Sacramento.
During the fifth inning of Sunday’s game between the White Sox and Athletics, Murakami launched a deep home run to right field, giving the White Sox a 6-1 lead in the contest.
What’s more, the home run gave Murakami long balls in three consecutive games.
Of course, Murakami couldn’t just settle for the home run, because he made some history too.
According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, Murakami’s eight home runs in his first 22 games are the most by any Japanese-born player over that stretch to start his career.
Langs also pointed out that Murakami bested Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani in that category, as he hit five home runs in his first 22 career games.
Murakami came into the game with seven home runs and 14 RBI’s, posting a .909 OPS thanks to his solid .386 on-base percentage and his .522 slugging percentage. He also has an impressive OPS+ of 159 early in the season.
Murakami and the White Sox will wrap up their series with the Athletics on Sunday before heading over to Phoenix to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks starting on Tuesday night.
