The Chicago White Sox have made it official, calling up their top prospect before their upcoming homestand.
The team Tuesday called up outfielder Braden Montgomery from Triple-A Charlotte, hoping to inject more pop into their lineup as they prepare to face the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers at Rate Field this week.
Montgomery is the top prospect in the team’s system and the No. 21 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline, and he’s been putting up eye-popping numbers in the minor leagues, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 41 RBI’s in 56 games. He’s slashed .314/.422/.548 in those contests, and has four home runs in 29 games with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
Montgomery was selected by the Boston red Sox in the first round of the 2024 Draft, and the White Sox acquired him in the 2024 trade that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston.
The White Sox also made four other roster moves, including transferring outfielder Austin Hays to the 60-day injured list and optioning Rikuu Nishida and David Sandlin to Charlotte.
In a corresponding move, the White Sox have called up pitcher Joe Rock from Charlotte.
Rock made his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Rays last season, and has put up solid numbers in the minors this season, with a 1-1 record and a 4.88 ERA. He has 40 strikeouts in 24 innings of work.
The White Sox and Braves will kick off their series on Tuesday night at Rate Field, with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m.
