A Wisconsin radio host has created what he says is a possible new fight song for the Chicago Bears after they announced plans to move forward with their stadium project in Hammond, Indiana.
WIXX Radio’s Andrew Haze released his take on social media, saying “someone had to do it.”
The song is in the style of “The Music Man,” with lyrics like “Springfield stumbled so we fled the state” — along with numerous mentions of Hammond, Indiana.
Reactions have been pouring in since news broke Friday that the Bears’ board of directors voted to “advance” their new stadium project in Hammond.
In wake of the news, social media users questioned if the team would change their name from the Chicago Bears or change the lyrics to their historic fight song — that states “you’re the pride and joy of Illinois!”
Dave Wannstedt, former Chicago Bears coach from 1993-98, spoke with NBC Chicago shortly after the team’s announcement and said he “would be shocked” to see the team change its name.
“Let’s be real about this. The Chicago Bears survived the Great Depression. They survived World War II. I mean, we got to have the Chicago Bears,” Wannstedt said.
Haze ended his new rendition of the fight song with a Packers fan jab, saying “wherever you go you still suck.”
